No “themes” for me
Last week was extra busy with projects and deadlines that I am excited to share soon. Here is a sneak peak of some of the samples that came in for an upcoming bathroom. Do you catch the subtle nautical theme?
While I am not a huge fan of huge “themed” rooms, I do enjoy a moment of unexpected whimsy and that usually comes from something personal. I like to design my clients’ spaces with meaningful items that tell their unique story. A fake seashell from Hobby Lobby will not evoke those cherished memories or create a space that feels like a personal sanctuary. But a well-placed, funky boat cleat… I’m in! I want to display the quirky items that tell the stories and experiences that have shaped individual lives.
By integrating pieces from different eras, cultures, and styles, we can layer stories within a space, building upon the richness and depth of our personalities. Sometimes it’s the combination of old and new, traditional and contemporary, maybe his and hers, that creates a design that is unique and thought-provoking—a true reflection of the diverse layers that make my clients who they are.
Designing with meaningful items allows my clients to express themselves authentically within their living spaces and pique the curiosity of their visitors. It allows them to showcase their hobbies, passions, dreams, and memories. Surrounding themselves with objects that hold personal significance, my clients find that their space feels more like home, allowing them to “embrace their space and enjoy their view.”
