Trade Day
The simple yet detailed and precise lines of the trim work in this first painting caught my eye when I was in Paris earlier this year. I have since learned that the artist, Vilhelm Hammershoi, was a Danish painter who used a very limited, rather somber palette of grey tones to depict detailed interiors.
This week I thought of him as I measured, measured and measured again! It was Trade Day on a new project and that means that all trade professionals take measurements for their area of expertise. I want to be sure that the painter knows exactly what she is going to paint. We need to have the electrician definitively determine where the lights will be. The cabinet maker must measure where the cabinets will be installed and decide how tall they need to be. What if we forget the plumber? Let’s not forget all the measurements required for window treatments! A flooring expert will need to measure before we install carpet or new wood floors. And the list goes on! Every project is unique, but every project requires A LOT of measuring.
Think of all the walls, windows, floors, doors, furniture and more that need to be measured for a perfect finished product… even if that finished product is just a painting!
