Massive Elephants?
I love that wallpaper has made a comeback! All of the funky large prints in powder rooms and bright accent walls in bedrooms are a delight to see.
However, I recently saw a powder room that was overtaken by massive elephants. Although the massive elephants in a powder room are unique, they may also be overwhelming. Let’s talk about scale with wallpaper.
When selecting a large print wallpaper for a small space, it is crucial to keep in mind the proportion of the space. Remember to consider the height of the walls and the furniture or other fixtures in the room. If you have low ceilings, vertical stripes can create the illusion of height. Similarly, in rooms with high ceilings, using a wallpaper with a horizontal pattern or a border at eye level can help balance the space. The scale of the print is also important to keep in mind. Maybe massive elephants just don’t belong in the small powder room.
Accent walls allow you to introduce wallpaper without overwhelming the entire space. I like to explore the possibilities by choosing one wall (or even the ceiling!) as a focal point and selecting a unique and eye-catching pattern for it. This technique works really well in living rooms, dining areas, and bedrooms.
But is there also a place for a stunning neutral? Definitely! As in the space pictured, wallpaper adds texture, dimension and warmth to a space and with no pattern, you are not likely to tire of it. Various textures and materials offer an additional layer of dimension to your space. Textured wallpaper with embossed designs can create a tactile experience and add depth to the walls. A neutral grasscloth provides a timeless backdrop to showcase your favorite piece of furniture, art or mirror.
Speaking of art, thanks to @clvarney_art for the original artwork, featuring tiny sheep (and not massive elephants) in the room shown here.
