Window seats are a clever way to make the most of often-underutilized spaces. In this home, the window seat at the top of the stairs creates a focal point in an other-wise unused space. One of the inherent charms of a window seat lies in its proximity to natural light. Placing a comfortable cushion by a this large window not only enhances the visual appeal of the space, but also provides an ideal spot for reading, daydreaming, or simply basking in the warmth of sunlight (and, we’ll take all we can get around here in the winter.)
While functional, my favorite feature of this charming nook is the pillow fabric selections. A classic nautical stripe sets the tone for the area with the large bottom cushion, custom designed for the space. Just up the stairs, on the opposite wall, a nautical map of the Coeur d’Alene/ Hayden area lakes features the exact same patterned strips. Then, as if the coordination could not get any better, each of the other colors from the map are revisited in the delightful throw pillows.
The nautical map is a definite winner, but it’s charming counterpoint, the window seat provides the cozy spot to sit and gaze at the map. A stunning combination!
