The Mauviel Factory in France

Copper in the kitchen. It’s iconic. There is such a rich history behind how copper pots and pans are made. At the Mauviel factory in France, they give tours and explain the techniques and process. Although they were not offering tours when I was there, I was excited to step into a cross between an old French kitchen and modern Williams Sonoma store.

Established in 1830, the Mauviel factory has been synonymous with unparalleled craftsmanship and outstanding quality for nearly two centuries. They have mastered the fine art of copperware production, combining traditional techniques handed down from generation to generation with the latest innovations in the industry. The result is a collection of copper pots, pans and a million other kitchen items that exude elegance and showcase the epitome of French culinary expertise. Like I said, think Williams Sonoma store that sells nothing but copper. Mauviel uses 2.5 mm thick copper, renowned for its exceptional heat conductivity. This ensures uniform heat distribution, allowing for precise and controlled cooking.

Crafting these magnificent copper pots involves an array of metalworking techniques. The highly skilled artisans at the Mauviel factory employ traditional methods alongside modern technologies to achieve unparalleled results.

The process begins with punching or stamping the copper sheets to create the pot’s base shape. Then, the pieces are manually formed using tools like hammers, anvils, and mandrels, meticulously shaping them by hand to achieve the desired curves and angles.

To provide a polished and refined look, the copper pots undergo an intricate finishing process. This includes painstakingly hand-polishing the exterior to a mirror-like shine, resulting in a captivating, lustrous finish that enhances the beauty of the copper.

I love a well-appointed kitchen. The addition of Mauviel copper pots not only enhances the visual appeal but also elevates the culinary experience. To indulge in the artistry of French craftsmanship is to experience the joy of cooking with precision and style!

I was excited to select a couple large pots to bring home to my own kitchen. Truthfully, I thought about taking home everything, but the kitchen sink. Literally. I would have liked to bring home even more, but take a long look at the picture of that sink because it was beautiful!
